Kenneth Stephens

Kenneth “Butch” Cotton Stephens, 70, of Sweet Home died July 18, 2011.

He was born Oct. 23, 1940 in Ronan, Mont. to Kenneth and Helen (Barclay) Stephens.

Mr. Stephens served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. After his military service, he worked at Willamette Industries Griggs Divison, for 26 years. He then worked in concrete until retirement in 2005.

He married Lola Lutz on Oct. 10, 1964. They lived in Lebanon until 1976 when they moved to Sweet Home.

Mr. Stephens was an avid bowler. He loved to read westerns. He loved his farm animals and his dog ”Bubba.” He will be remembered as being quite a jokester. His quirky sayings provided others with a laugh.

He is survived by his wife Lola; brothers Gary Stephens and sister-in-law Fran, and Sam Stephens; sisters Donna and brother-in-law Art Friesz, Lynn Dee and brother-in-law Greg Bauer, Judy and brother-in-law Mike Sherrell, and Connie Shultz; sister-in-law Jan Miner and husband Dan; brothers-in-law John Lutz, Jerry Lutz and wife Glenda; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his son, Roy David Stephens; father Kenneth; mother Helen (Barclay) Lutz; step-father Carl Lutz; sister Dorothy Smith; brothers Van and Bill Stephens; and niece Samantha Stephens.

A memorial service will take place at a later date. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
