Kids’ lawsuit flies in face of power

Some Eugene, Oregon kids are suing President Obama for letting fossil fuels ruin their future environment.

Right on! That inaction on climate change is a violation of their right to life, liberty and property – and they are demanding that Obama, the EPA, et al preserve the climate for “future generations.”

They and a lot of climate researchers say that Obama’s Clean Power Plan is not tough enough, that there needs to be at least an 80 percent reduction in emissions by 2030. Obama’s plan is just 43 percent and Hillary Clinton’s is about 54 percent.

The GOPs plan is zero percent cuz, ya see, their constituency – the religious right evangelicals etc., who believe it’s God’s will, and the corporations who fear their record profits might take a hit – don’t allow it.

The fossil fuel industries are pouring money into the 2016 election in unprecedented quantities. So far, it has gone entirely to Republican candidates. The three largest recipients are (1) Ted Cruz , (2) Jeb Bush and (3) Rick Perry. So, if they are elected, there will be no future research into alternatives/renewables or a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g new. It will be fossil fuels, till death do us part.

Want proof? Remember Reagan called President Carter’s water-heating solar panels a joke and had them removed. The Carter administration set a goal of deriving 20 percent of U.S. energy needs from renewable sources by 2000. The Reagan administration came in and gutted the research and development budgets for renewable energy at the then-fledgling U.S. Department of Energy and eliminated tax breaks for the deployment of wind turbines and solar technologies.

The only science the Republicans support is the science of extraction.

Want proof? Anti-science/climate denier Ted Cruz was put in as chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Space, Science after Republicans won control of the Senate in 2014. He hates NASA’s Earth Sciences cuz they study the earth (i.e. global climate), so his mission is to kill it via defunding.

That’s how the Republicans have always done it too. They put a person in charge of an agency or committee that they know either hates it, doesn’t believe in it, or knows/cares anything about it and lets em gut it from within.

Examples: Christine Todd Whitman and then Stephen L. Johnson as heads of the EPA.

The EPA is a cause that is beyond self-interest and larger than the goals people normally pursue. You’re not there for the money; you’re there to protect the the land, air, water and biodiversity forever because without them life dies.

“Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.”
