Krystle Streight breaks shot-put record

Senior Krystle Streight shattered the SHHS shot-put record set in 1994 Wednesday as the Huskies traveled to a four-way meet in Sherwood.

Streight obliterated her own personal record of 37-02 with a toss of 40-9. The old mark was 39-01 set by Christine Civitanich in 1994. Civitanich went on to compete at the University of Oregon.

“It was a monster shot put,” Coach Billy Snow said. “Krystle has worked hard for four years to get to this point and we now want to make a 40-foot shot put the norm for her. Coach Karen Gaskey has brought Krystle along gradually and things look to be falling in place.”

Streight also tossed the discus 105-11 for second place and the javelin 94-07 for fourth.

Overall, the both Husky squads finished fourth.

“We had some great performances,” Coach Snow said. “A week earlier at Junction City, both the girls and boys easily outdistanced Central. This time around, we were trying some new things with out kids and the lineup in preparation for upcoming meets.”

For the Husky girls, Devynn Schmacher continued to run well setting a PR in the 3000M of 12:06.0 for second place. Her sister, Kambria, was fifth in the 1500M with a PR of 5:44.7.

Hannah Swanson ran a season best of 16.7 to win the high hurdles and helped anchor the 4 X 100M relay team of Kierya Shreves, Sarah Rosa and Nicki Emmert to third place in 55.8.

Freshman Ashley Danielson clocked a 2:48.7 for fourth place in the 800M.

Kari McGuyre placed in all three of her events. In the high jump, she went 4-10 for third, leaped 29-09 for third in the triple jump and was fifth in the long jump at 13-05.5.

Other placers for the girls were Tabby Trahan, fifth in the 400M; Hannah McClaskey, fifth in the shot put; Megan Hershberger, fifth in the discus; Nicki Emmert, fourth in the long jump and third in the triple jump; Ashley Bertucci, fifth in the triple jump; and Erika Snow, fifth in the pole vault.

Boys Results

“Points were hard to come by on the boys side of the track,” Coach Snow said. But, he added, good effort wasn’t hard to find.

Alex Brown had a season best of 160-00 in the javelin to take second overall. The toss moves Brown to third on the school’s all-time list.

Ravi Patel placed in both horizontal jumps, going 18-04.5 in the long jump for fourth and 38-10 in the triple jump for second. Alex Ritzman was fifth at 35-06 in his first attempt at the triple jump.

On the track the short relay team of Tim Faulconer, Ryan Sipe, Ole Bond and Patel ran fourth at 47.7. Peter VanDerlip set a PR at 4:45.7 in the 1500M for fifth place.

Jeremy Fisher had a season best 17.8 in the high hurdles to place third. Ole Bond and Tim Faulconer went fourth and fifth in the 200M.

Other placers included Anthony Ertsgaard, fifth in the 800M; Jake Smith, fifth in the 3,000M; and K.C. Hanscam, fifth in the pole vault.

“In a great race, the 4 X 400M team of Ryan Sipe, Alex Ritzman, Anthony Ertsgaard and Tim Faulconer each set PRs in their splits en route to a season best of 3:44.8,” Coach Snow said.

Calendar: April 19 at Stayton; April 23 at St. Helens.
