Kyle Rose named boys soccer MVP

The Sweet Home High School varsity boys soccer team selected Kyle Rose as its Most Valuable Player during the annual awards dessert held on Nov. 12.

Austin Yoder received the Hustle Award, and Michael Tolle and Steven Ulmer received the Coach’s Award.

Junior varsity MVP was Ramon Fry.

It was tough to play without subs this year, said JV Coach Eric Stutzer, but “the only two games they had subs, they won.”

The varsity had a good season, said Coach Ryan Regrutto. Our goal is not necessarily to win games but to improve. One of the team’s best games this year was a 5-0 loss to Sisters at home.

“It’s the best 5-0 loss I’ve ever seen,” Regrutto said. “I think we’re finally seeing movement in the right direction.”

The team was young, he said. Nearly half the varsity team members were freshmen and sophomores.

That’s a lot of younger players coming through the program, he said.

Earning first-year letters were Adrien Zavala; freshman Alonso Perez; sophomores Tadyn Bentley, Egan Shamek and T.J. Baham; and juniors Matthew Davis, Tyler Schilling and Brenner Roberts.

Second-year lettermen were sophomores Patric Dishaw and Nick Rodgers and seniors Kyle Rose, Michael Tolle, Steven Ulmer and Austin Yoder.

The team finished with two wins and eight losses in league and 2-12 overall.
