L.J. “Jack” Dedman, 88, of Sweet Home died Oct. 28, 2006.
He was born to LeRoy and Frances (Hopkin) Dedman in Whatcom County, Wash.
Mr. Dedman was a Merchant Marine during WWII. He then returned to the Bay City area and started work in a shingle mill. He worked in sawmills and made his way through Oregon with different mills, eventually winding up in Sweet Home, where he worked for Santiam Lumber, which later became Willamette Industries. He retired in 1979.
Mr. Dedman coached and was a Boy Scout leader in the 1940s. He loved watching sports and enjoyed clamming and crabbing, outdoors and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Dedman; daughters, Jacque Violett of Bay City and Julie Dedman of Sweet Home; step-sons, Bill Branch of Silverdale, Wash. and Wayne Morris of South Bend, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a step-son, Don Morris.
Services will be Friday, Nov. 3, at 18th and Long Church of Christ.
