Laban Ford

Laban Harold Ford, 91, of Sweet Home died Saturday in Albany.

He was born in Stilwell, Adair, Okla., to Laban and Florence Aslee (Guthrie) Ford.

Mr. Ford retired from law enforcement. He was proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage.

His great-grandma was part of the Adair family and descended from the Deer Clan. During WWII, Laban served in the Navy. Shortly thereafter, he married Rena Gorter and they had three boys. In June 1980, he married Melva Nina Moden. He served as Deacon of the Central Point Seventh Day Adventist.

Mr. Ford is survived by his brothers Calvin Haskell (Charlotte) Ford and Jesse Clarence (Elsie); sister Wilma Waleah Jackson; sons Harold “LeRoy” Ford, of Oregon and Randy (Peggy) Ford, of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Melva Ford; son John Ford; parents, Laban and Florence Ford; sisters Ruth May Steinseik, Dorthula Maude Jones, Melba Margaret Ford and Florence Pauline Boquist; and brothers Loran Ralph Ford, Austin Lee Ford and William Talmadge Ford.

Viewing will be at noon Monday, Oct. 28, at the Sweet Home Seventh Day Adventist Church, 300 Hwy. 228. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Graveside services immediately following services at Gilliland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Student Aid Fund at the Sweet Home Seventh Day Adventist Church, P.O. Box 265, Sweet Home, Oregon 97386.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
