LaVern Anderson

Sept. 21, 1923 – Oct. 22, 2011

LaVern “Andy” Delwin Anderson, 88, of Antioch, Calif. and a former Sweet Home resident, died Oct. 22, 2011 after a long, full life.

He was born Sept. 21, 1923 in Argyle, Minn. to Fritjof and Amelia Anderson. He grew up on his parents’ farm and joined the Army in 1942, serving three years as a special vehicle operator/airplane engine repairman in both the United States and England during World War II.

He settled down in Southern California, where he began working as a truck driver and met his wife Mary. They married and later moved to Antioch, Calif., where they raised five children.

Mr. Anderson touched many lives throughout the years as he traveled the roads, doing what he loved to do – “being a trucker” and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to all he ran across.

In 1992 the Andersons moved to Sweet Home, where they lived until Mrs. Anderson died in 2008.

Oregon was “God’s country,” Mr. Anderson used to say.

The couple made many friends in Oregon and cherished each and every one.

He is survived by his five children, Elizabeth and son-in-law Ross, Barbara, Kenneth and daughter-in-law Cathy, Carol, and Peggy and son-in-law Mark; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife Mary; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Theresa.

Friends and family attended a graveside service with military honors on Oct. 28 at Union Cemetery in Brentwood, Calif. To contact the family, please e-mail [email protected].
