Lawrence Cross

Lawrence LeRoy Cross, 61, of Sweet Home died at Lebanon Community Hospital on Dec. 20, 2010.

He was born in Sweet Home to Raymond Lawrence and LaWanda Jean (Saulmon) Cross on Jan. 31, 1949.

Mr. Cross lived in Sweet Home his entire life except while he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.

He joined the army in 1967 and earned a Purple Heart. He reched the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Cross worked in the timber industry for 40 years.

He was a member of the Elm Street Baptist Church and helped out by driving the church bus. He was a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader and Awanas leader. Mr. Cross was a Boy Scout in his youth.

He enjoyed competing in the annual tug-of-war competition at the Pioneer Picnic in Brownsville. He enjoyed most outdoor activities, including tennis, racquetball, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting and bowling.

Mr. Cross is survived by his wife, Connie; sons, Tad Cross and Shawn Cross; parents, Raymond and LaWanda Cross; sister, Jerry Hamlin; and six grand children.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Community Chapel, 42250 Ames Creek, Sweet Home, Oregon.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
