LBCC science to get boost from upgrade

Editor:

Opportunity has increased for the citizens of Linn and Benton counties.

Students from throughout our region will soon be able to more quickly complete science classes and enter careers in healthcare, technology and engineering with the construction of a new science building and the much-needed renovation of our existing science facility.

Through the leadership of Gov. Kulongoski, the hard work of Sen. Morse and Reps. Olson and Gelser, the Oregon Legislature has authorized $3,731,250 for the construction of this important project.

Hundreds of people have written letters and spoken at public hearings resulting in this huge step forward. Community leaders, local businesses and foundations have provided financial support to pay for the private portion of this project. We will continue to work with private donors and the federal government to fully equip these new facilities.

The continued energy and tenacity of the community, donors, students, faculty, staff, the LBCC Foundation and all of our friends have shown the importance of this project to meet our regional needs for skilled employees in healthcare, manufacturing and agriculture and for students seeking a strong science foundation for upper division education.

Together, we will continue to make a positive difference in the lives of students. Thank you to everyone who is making this project happen.
