Sheriff Dave Burright would like to remind Linn County citizens that the Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the 12th Linn County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy to be held Sept. 10 through Nov. 19.
The Citizen’s Academy is a popular series of classes designed to educate citizens about the Sheriff’s Office role in the criminal justice system and the community.
The Citizen’s Academy was started in 1996 to promote awareness and understanding of police procedures and conduct. Participants attend 33 hours of training that provides lectures and hands-on experiences similar to those encountered by law enforcement officers.
The Citizen’s Academy, which is free, is held twice a year. Most classes are held on Tuesday evenings at the Sheriff’s Office in Albany from 6:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Class size is limited to 24 persons. Applications may be obtained at the Sheriff’s Office or by calling (541) 917-6671. The application must be returned to the Sheriff’s Office no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 28. Those selected will be notified by Sept. 4.
For more information, persons may contact Deputy Mary Mehlhorn at (541) 917-6671.
