Linn County Sheriff’s Office identified a body recovered on Dec. 10 from Foster Lake as 39-year-old David Jesse Shoop.
Preliminary identification of the body was made with tattoos and then confirmed through dental records.
Shoop’s last known address was near Coquille, but he also was known to spend considerable time in the Linn County area, Sheriff Dave Burright said. Shoop was a convicted felon with an extensive criminal record.
Most recently, he was on post-prison supervision in Coos County stemming from narcotics-related charges out of Linn and Benton counties, Sheriff Burright said. He had absconded from supervision and had not been seen by his parole officer since early summer.
Linn County and Sweet Home Fire Department divers pulled Shoop’s body from the lake after three sport divers discovered it and reported it to Sweet Home Police Department.
Linn County Sheriff’s Office is handling Shoop’s death as a homicide.
The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing details about Shoop’s death or the condition of his body.
Shoop’s body had been underwater for an extended period of time, though the length of time remains undetermined.
