Leon Weathers

Feb. 6, 1940 – June 15, 2012

Leon D. “Pete” Weathers, 72, of Sweet Home died June 15, 2012.

He was born Feb. 6, 1940 in Salem to Leonard and Ruth (Anderson) Weathers.

He attended Sweet Home and Crawfordsville schools. He married Lonita M. Butenschoen on Feb. 1, 1960 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Mr. Weathers worked at Willamette Industries for 43 years, his final job as a glue mixer.

After his retirement he enjoyed building cars, especially engine machine work, and restoring older cars. He loved baking, horses and making puppets for church.

He is survived by his wife Lonita Weathers of Sweet Home; children Sandy and son-in-law Jerry Smith, Shirley and son-in-law Randy Manning, Steven and daughter-in-law Charity Weathers, and Anita Weathers Cobleigh, all of Lebanon; sisters Ellen and brother-in-law Glenn Fox of BC, Canada, Barbara Tipton of Salem, Susan and brother-in-law Dick Paridee of Independence; numerous nieces and nephews; 15 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry.

A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Church of the Nazarene in Sweet Home.

Final burial will be at Gilliland Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Weathers’ name to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice.
