First, the paid advertisement for City Council candidate James Risinger: Sir, the City Council did not force you to agree to a shelter for the homeless persons in the area.
Your shortsightedness in the plight of persons who find themselves without sufficient means to keep up the financial demands of keeping a home causes the issue of what to do for homeless persons all over the world. True, not all homelessness is due to lack of being able to financially support themselves for a period. Those who find themselves in it are needing help.
A community who chooses to reach out to help is a healthy thing , not a condemnation.
Secondly, it was a sad thing for families to see our RIO theater become another place for alcohol consumption when there are families seeking public outlets for entertainment. I totally agree with council member Lisa Gourley’s comment.
Thirdly, Ms. Daiute’s diatribe regarding cats (Letters, Oct. 26): I feel for the heart of a human that feels so harshly regarding our animal friends. As a person who shares a home with a cat (one of many over the years), I find it very hard to accept such blatant statements that cats all over are more responsible for the extinction of bird life than we humans who carelessly and relentlessly choose to build more to prove what?
There is a great deal more wildlife being destroyed by our unwillingness to take care of the earth around us, under us and above us ,by our “right” to occupy. The way to help others understand what we can do we must teach the children, they are the future, cats are just little friends we can share it with.
