When my wife and I moved to Sweet Home in 1970 we were impressed by the volunteerism in this community.
Whenever we had a visitor or a new neighbor from elsewhere, we would list the attributes of Sweet Home, and right on top was the involvement and caring in our community.
On Saturday, Nov. 5, the high school construction shop was abuzz with activity. Planning, organizing, notifying, cooking, assembling; teenagers, parents, grandparents, teachers, City Council persons, locals, construction-experienced, and others not so much, everyone anxious to give a hand and support building shelters for our homeless.
After 52 years, volunteerism and caring has not subsided. Be proud of yourself. You (emphasis) are a model for others.
We are sure that caring was in existence before we came to Sweet Home and we are absolutely sure it will continue into the future.
