Four new computers with high-speed DSL Internet, a wide assortment of software and printers were recently donated to the Sweet Home Public Library by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
We are very thankful for this generous gift. Many children in the Sweet Home area do not own computers. The library is the only location they have to use computers for homework assignments in the evening hours.
Adults are lining up to use the computers as well. Résumés and job applications can be completed online. Many job listings are now on the Internet and can be easily accessed with the new computers.
Others use the computers for home and auto repair information, entertainment or news. For those with do-it-yourself home remodeling projects, the Internet is proving to be an extremely useful tool for everything from fence building to kitchen remodeling. For example, a search on google.com for “do-it-yourself” will retrieve more than 1 million web pages.
Due to the popularity of the computers, it is best to call the library at 367-5007 and reserve a time. Patrons are required to read the computer use policy, and children under the age of 14 need a parent’s signature to use the Internet.
The library’s collection includes thousands of children’s books, more than a thousand videos, a wide variety of magazines and newspapers, cookbooks and do-it-yourself books for your home and auto. It has books on quilting, sewing, health, hunting, fishing, guns and much more.
The library is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is located at 1301 13th Ave., behind the Post Office.
