Linda Marie Kirk, 74, of Sweet Home, passed away April 4, 2025 of complications of Parkinson’s.
She was born July 6, 1950, to Barbara (Peshon) and George Milne in Tillamook.
She lived in the coastal areas of Tillamook, Bandon, Sitkum and Sweet Home.
Linda was a school teacher, librarian, firefighter with the Dora-Sitkum rural fire department. She was a board member of Dora Public Library, and children’s librarian at Flora M. Laird Public Library in Myrtle Point.
Linda liked genealogy and civic projects. She was instrumental in getting grants and overseeing the building of new fire halls in Dora and at Sitkum, as well as remodeling school buildings into a community center. She served as president of the Coquille Valley Geneology Club.
She co-wrote two published books, “Myrtle Point and Vicinity,” as well as “Cheese War” with her sister Marilyn Milne. She was honored by Sen. Jeff Merkley for her work bringing broadband access to the Dora-Sitkum area.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Kirk; daughters Mae Kirk (Tim Counts) and Emma Kirk (Joel); sisters Marilyn Milne (Eric Swegles) and Cathy Froland (Larry); brother Steve Milne and his wife Kathy Milne; two grandchildren; and brother-in-law John David Kirk.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
