The Credit Union Association of Oregon awarded Linn-Co Federal Credit Union the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award at the association’s recent annual meeting.
Since 1987, this award has honored credit unions for charitable works in their communities. Linn-Co’s Community Fund was the focus of its entry this year. Linn-Co raised money throughout the year by projects such as barbecues, selling See’s Candies and Entertainment Books and an occasional bottled water sale.
Another aspect of the award is actual hands-on involvement in the community. Linn-Co’s community is defined as all of Linn County since it has a community charter allowing anyone who lives, works or worships in Linn County to join the credit union.
Linn-Co is involved with helping school out through not only financial support but also through classroom presentations. In this last year, Linn-Co presented more than 15 hours of financial information throughout the school year, with seven different employees studying, researching and presenting their own lessons. Many employees are involved on a variety of levels with organizations such as Altrusa, Lion’s, Masons, Optimists and local Chambers of Commerce just to name a few.
“We were very pleased to win this award,” Linn-Co Public Relations Officer Kathleen Burt said. “Because we know that there are many credit unions in Oregon that are also working hard every day to honor and support their community.”
