Jerald
Erickson of Sweet Home was found guilty by a jury of first-degree
theft, second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree criminal
mischief and sentenced on Nov. 18 in Linn County Circuit Court.
He
was acquitted on charges of offensive littering and unlawful
transport of metals.
He
was sentenced to 24 months in prison with 12 months post-prison
supervision and fined $400.
Erickson,
54, was one of two men arrested on Dec. 29, 2013 in connection to the
theft of logging equipment from private timber properties in Linn
County.
Erickson
and Forrest Norman were arrested after deputies served a search
warrant in the 28000 block of Highway 20 and the 40000 block of
Holley Heights Loop. Police recovered a stolen flatbed trailer and
logging equipment along with methamphetamine, marijuana, packaging
materials and drug parephernalia.
The
case against Norman is pending in Linn County Circuit Court.
Brandon
Clark
Brandon
Clark of Sweet Home pleaded guilty on Nov. 21 to first-degree animal
abuse and was sentenced to 150 hours of compensatory service and 24
months probation and fined $200 in Linn County Circuit Court.
He
was ordered to seek counseling and not to own, possess or care for
animals.
Linn
County deputies arrested Clark on Aug. 6 after injuring a gray and
white pitbull mix.
A
witness told police that Clark was angry at his dog when it nipped at
another dog while it was eating, and he picked up the dog and slammed
it to the ground, causing its back and hips to break, Sheriff Bruce
Riley said.
The
previous week, deputies had arrested another Sweet Home man, Jonathan
Farris, for animal abuse. That case remains pending in Circuit Court.
Rhonda
Horner
Rhonda
K. Horner of Halsey pleaded no contest to driving under the
influence, fourth-degree assault and recklessly endangering another
person on Dec. 3 in Linn County Circuit Court.
A
charge of reckless driving was dismissed.
She
was sentenced to 35 days in jail and 36 months probation. Her license
was suspended for one year. She was ordered to pay $1,455 in fines
and fees and to attend alcohol treatment and a victim impact panel.
Horner
was arrested on Aug. 1 following an investigation and subsequent
grand jury indictment related to a December 2013 traffic crash on
Highway 228 nvolving a Crawfordsville man.
On
Dec. 2, 2013, a 2006 Honda Accord driven by Horner was westbound on
Highway 228 near milepost 8, about one mile east of Brownsville, when
it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound
2005 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by 46-year-old William
Brady of Crawfordsville.
Brady
was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while Horner was
extricated by firefighters and transported by air ambulance to Sacred
Heart Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Zachary
Johnson
Zachary
Johnson, 21, of Portland pleaded no contest to second-degree burglary
and was sentenced to 20 months in prison on Nov. 24 in Linn County
Circuit Court in a case involving the burglary of Midway Grocery.
Charges
of second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree theft were
dismissed.
Johnson
also was sentenced to 12 months post-prison supervision.
In
a second case, he pleaded no contest to two counts of unauthorized
use of a motor vehicle and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 36
months probation. He was ordered to pay $1,100 in fines and
restitution. The sentence was increased by 60 days in jail and 18
months probation based on a probation violation. His license also was
suspended for one year.
Dismissed
in the second case were charges of possession of burglary tools or
theft devices, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree
theft.
In
the first case, Johnson was one of two suspects arrested for a theft
at Midway Grocery on Nov. 8. A resident had reported a suspicious
dark-colored Suburban pulling onto 41st Avenue. The occupants got out
of the vehicle and left.
Sweet
Home police officers were already en route when the resident told
police that the alarm at Midway Grocery had activated and two
individuals were running back to the vehicle.
Also
arrested was Joshua Lee Roebuck, 27. The case against Roebuck remains
pending in Linn County Circuit Court.
In
the second case, Linn County deputies arrested Johnson in connection
to a Honda stolen from Sweet Home on Oct. 14. The 1992 Honda Accord
had a tracking device that allowed deputies to locate the vehicle
near Allbee Lane and Knox Butte Road outside Albany arrest Johnson
and Stefani Brock.

Stefani Brock,
24, of Sweet Home pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a motor
vehicle on Nov. 17 in Linn County Circuit Court and was sentenced to
five days compensatory service, 18 months probation and fined $100.
A
charge of possession of meth was dismissed conditionally – as long
as there are no reports of violations during her probation. The UUMV
charge was treated as a class A misdemeanor.

Road outside Albany and arrest Zachary Johnson and Brock.

Daniel
Browand, 20, was sentenced to 20 days in jail in four cases in Linn
County Circuirt Court stemming from a string of incidents in late
October and early November in Sweet Home.
In
the first case, Browand pleaded no contest to second-degree burglary.
Second-degree criminal mischief was dismissed. Browand was sentenced
to 120 hours in jail and 18 months probation and fined $200.
In
the second case, he pleaded no contest to unauthorized use of a motor
vehicle. A charge of second-degree criminal mischief was dismissed.
He was sentenced to 240 hours in jail and 18 months probation and
fined $200.
In
the third case, Browand pleaded no contest to first-degree burglary.
Charges of first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft were
dismissed. He was sentenced to 120 hours in jail and 36 months
probation and fined $200, with $745.48 in restitution.
A
fourth case, with charges of second-degree criminal trespass and
third-degree theft, was dismissed as part of the plea negotiations.
Sweet
Home police arrested Browand following a string of incidents
beginning on Oct. 27 and ending on Nov. 5.
He
was accused of entering Dairy Queen through the drive-through window
on Oct. 27 after breaking a window in the box office at Sweet Home
High School and taking a Sweet Home Mat Club T-shirt. He was wearing
a Mat Club T-shirt when he was arrested that night.
He
also was accused of shoplifting at Safeway.
On
Oct. 29, he was accused of trespassing and burglarizing an apartment
at 1890 Kalmia Street and taking a garbage can from a residence on
Kalmia Street before entering a vacant house in the 1700 block of
Long Street.
On
Nov. 2, he was accused of shoplifting at Main Street Market.
On
Nov. 4, police arrested him for burglary and theft at Safeway and
then on Nov. 5, police arrested him for the theft of a motorcycle.
