Final results of Linn County voting in the Nov. 2 election, released last week by the county Elections Office, reflected statewide trends on the measures, but not on the candidates.

County voters supported Chris Dudley (59.95 percent) over John Kitzhaber (34.18 percent) in the governor’s race, though Kitzhaber slipped past Dudley with 49.31 percent of the statewide vote to win by 1.5 percentage points.

In the 4th District congressional race, Republican Art Robinson received 52.96 of the Linn County vote, to 42.76 percent for Democrat Peter DeFazio, who won the election with support of 54.52 percent of voters district-wide.

In the race for the U.S. Senate, Republican Jim Huffman drew 49.93 percent of the county vote, to 42.23 percent for Democratic incumbent Ron Wyden, who won statewide with 57.26 percent of the vote.

The percentages of county voters supporting Measure 70, expanding home loan opportunities for veterans, was highly popular in the county, with 84.45 percent supporting it and 15.55 opposing. Statewide, it drew 78.75 percent support.

Measure 71, requiring the Legislature to meet annually, drew 54.01 percent support locally, slightly less than the 67.85 percent who supported it statewide.

Local support for Measure 72, which authorizes an exception to the state borrowing limit of $50,000 for real and personal property projects, was more tepid locally (45.59 percent) compared to statewide (59.11).

Measure 73, which increases minimum sentences for certain repeated sex crimes and incarceration for repeated driving under the influence, drew 61.87 “yes” votes locally, compared to 56.84 statewide.

Measure 74, which would have established a medical marijuana supply system and assistance and research program, and would have allowed limited selling of marijuana, got even less support in Linn County (33.67 percent) than statewide (44.17 percent).

Measure 75, which would have authorized a non-Indian casino in Multnomah County, failed locally by nearly the same margin (31.11 percent support) as it did statewide (31.82).

Measure 76, which continues lottery funding for parks, beaches and other outdoor uses, got 60.11 percent “yes” votes locally and 69.11 percent statewide.
