Linn County Sheriff warns of check scam

Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley last week warned county residents of a check scam – after he himself received two bogus checks sent to him in a “priority mail” envelope, he said.

“At this time, we know of two business names involved in the scams: Multi Aquaculture Systems, INC. from New York, and Euroshine Cleaning, INC. from California,” Riley said. His office checked with one of the companies and was told there is a scam involving checks with the company name being sent to people; the company has reported this scam to its local law enforcement, Riley said.

Riley warned members of the public not to fall prey to these types of scams.

If you fall victim to one of these scams and have been defrauded of money or personal information, contact your local law enforcement agency and report it immediately. If you suspect a scam and have not been defrauded, we recommend reporting this activity directly to the United States Department of Justice at http://www.justice.gov/criminal/fraud/contact/report-fraud.html.
