Lloyd E. Hein, 89, of Eugene (formerly of Sweet Home), died Nov. 2, 2008 at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend.
He was born Sept. 23, 1919 in Durham, Kan. to Daniel E. and Hannah (Schlotthauer) Hein. He grew up on a farm in Kansas and graduated from Durham High School. He served in the Army from 1941-1945, completing the Army Ranger training before going to Europe in World War II. He was a staff sergeant and was a medical and surgical technician and ran a first aid station in the war.
Mr. Hein married Delphia Ruth Frick on June 6, 1943 in Ozark, Ala. They have been married over 65 years. They lived in Reedsport for 20 years and they have lived in Sweet Home for the last 10 years before moving to Eugene in June.
He retired in 1980 as a park ranger for the state of Oregon. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. He loved his family.
Mr. Hein is survived by his wife, Delphia; son, Michael Hein of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Pam Henderson of Junction City; sister, Marietta Miller of Spanaway, Wash.; three grandsons, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his brother, Fred Hein.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
