Local fighters on card for Saturday cage bouts

Sweet Home’s Bully Gang will send five fighters into the cage at the Salem Armory on Oct. 25.

The fighters include Brad Furst of Sweet Home versus Joey Velasquez of Barracks Gym in Corvallis at 165 pounds. The match was scheduled earlier this year, but Velasquez was unable to fight because his blood work was not complete by the time of the fight. Both are fighting for the first time.

Eli Pauls of Sweet Home will face John Steels of KHJ Jujitsu at 195 pounds. This will be their first fight.

Santos Quitoriano, 4-0, of Salem will face former Bully Gang member Shorty Weikel, 4-1, of Sweet Home at 155 pounds. Weikel is now with Barracks Gym.

Nate Becker, 6-1, of Salem and a former Sweet Home High School wrestler, will face Travis Hutchinson, 6-2, in a fight for the 145-pound title. Hutchinson handed Weikel his first defeat earlier this year.

Ryan Miller, 6-2, of Sweet Home will face Isaac Rizeau, 2-1, of Team Quest for the heavyweight title.

“We have a full five crew going in from the team, who have good records and are looking great,” said Cory Graham, owner and manager of the Bully Gang. “Brad and Eli have a lot to bring to the table.”

Miller and his opponent are both punchers, Graham said, so he expects to see a lot of standup fighting there. The same thing goes for Becker and his opponent. Both are trained in jujitsu and will primarily fight standing up.

Quitoriano and Weikel will split time fighting on the ground and standing up, Graham said.

“It’s going to be interesting,” Graham said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Fights start at 7 p.m.
