Boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to compete in the annual local Hershey’s Track and Field Games on Friday, May 18, hosted by the Valley Velocity Track Club and Albany Parks & Recreation.
The meet, held at the West Albany High School track, will begin at 4 p.m. with check-in starting at 2 p.m. Participants must pre-register and need not be affiliated with a track club or team in order to participate.
Events will include the 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 1600-meter run, 4 x 100-meter relay, standing long jump, and softball throw.
First-place winners will advance to the state meet, to be held Saturday, July 7, at Hayward Field in Eugene. State meet winners do not automatically advance to the North American Final but are entered into a regional pool to become eligible for selection to a Regional Team which will travel to Hershey, Pa., to compete in the North American Final, held Saturday, Aug. 4. All regional winners will qualify for the North American Final Meet except those in 9- to 10-year-old and 11- to 12-year-old 4×100 relays.
