Log truck rolls, no one injured

No one was injured when a log truck rolled over on Highway 20 a couple miles east of Quartzville Road Friday at about 2:45 p.m.

John Parazoo of McKenzie Bridge was headed west on Highway 20 from the Moose Creek helicopter logging site. He had been working for about a week at the site.

“I wasn’t even into the curve yet when I started sliding,” Parazoo said. He was driving approximately 35 mph when his 1981 Freightliner started slipping.

The truck flipped onto its side part way through a curve, losing part of its load over an embankment. The logs that fell out destroyed more than 200 feet of guardrail.

“I was just sitting there waiting for it to flip over and see how bad I was going to get socked,” Parazoo said, but he escaped the truck with only bruises.

Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to the accident. Oregon State Police investigated the accident and directed traffic through the one remaining open lane. Oregon Department of Transportation assisted.

AA Towing recovered the tractor. A self-loader and log trucks were brought in to salvage the load.

Parazoo was cited for careless driving.
