Things are beginning to gell for the East Linn Loggers, who nearly pulled off their first win of the season Saturday against the Capital City Enforcers at Husky Stadium.
The Loggers kept it close and scored their first touchdowns of the season, but fell short 30-27 in a game spiced up by a number of turnovers that led to scores, two of them for the home team.
Trase Privratsky recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Loggers’ first touchdown and Jesse Garcia III intercepted a pass and ran it back 50 yards for another score.
Garcia, who has played quarterback the last four games, also found his groove and completed two passes for touchdowns, going 19-45 for 226 yards through the air.
Privratsky caught one of the touchdown passes and Riley Fugitt hauled in the other.
Craig Bergevin led the team with 10 tackles, and Chris Ropp, Rod Jaques and Mike Johnson recorded a sack apiece.
East Linn, 0-6, is missing a significant number of the players who helped the Loggers to the playoffs last year. The Loggers go into their final game at noon Saturday, June 23, at Seven Oak Middle School against the Power Valley Sharks.
“I think the Sharks are going to the championship this year,” said Loggers Coach Jesse Garcia Sr. “If we can pull something out of the hat, we can make a statement. Our boys are just starting to come together.”
