Lois Schaffer
Sept. 12, 1934 – Dec. 18, 2025
Lois Lorraine (Barrett) Schaffer, 91, formerly of Prineville and Sweet Home, died Dec. 18, 2025, in Spokane, Wash.
Lois, the oldest of three children of Delbert and Elsie Barrett, was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Newport. During her school years, her family moved over 10 times, settling in Prineville, where she graduated from Crook County High School.
After high school, she moved to Springfield to attend beauty school. While there, she met Larry Schaffer on a blind date. They married on Feb. 9, 1954, in Reno, Nev.
Lois believed her main job was to take care of Larry. She did this well. She and Larry enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2018.
Lois had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, and reading. While living in Prineville she made wedding dresses for many brides, formals for proms and other events. She was also known for knitting many gifts: tablecloths, baby blankets, scarves, shawls, lace collars, etc., over her many years.
Lois also enjoyed a party and could be seen with a drink in one hand and a cigar in the other. As the wife of Larry, she lived in Lorane, Eugene, Prineville, Albany, Lebanon, Sweet Home and Soldotna, Alaska.
Over her years, she learned all about farm life. The last farm was near Sweet Home, where they lived for 27 years, mainly raising pigs.
Lois and Larry moved to Nine Mile Falls, Wash., nine years ago to be near family.
Lois is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Diana and Shannon Stebbens, Lynn and Roger Marcoulier and Sheila and Mike Arrasmith; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
No services will be held at this time.
