Lorene Clester

Lorene Clester, 77, of Sweet Home died Nov. 21, 2007.

She was born Aug. 9, 1930 in Byers, Colo. to William Ray and Winnie Fern (Boyd) Ridinger.

She lived in Walnut Creek, Calif. and moved to Brownsville as a child. She met Pleasant Merrill Whitney Jr. and they were married in October 1947.

She had three children. They later divorced and she then married Charles Arthur “Art” Clester on April 19, 1969.

Mrs. Clester was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and was very supportive of her children. She made sure her children learned musical instruments. She was a great cook and made wonderful pies at holiday time.

She is survived by her children, Merrill Anne Gallagher and husband Frank of Sweet Home, Michael Whitney and wife Kathleen of Eugene, Patrick Whitney of Sweet Home, Bonita and husband Gene Lynn of Dallas, and Lonnie and Shawn Clester of Portland; a brother, Bruce and Judy Ridinger ; sisters, Margaret (and Loren) Thornton and Mary Edna Warren; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Clester was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Art Clester; one brother; one sister; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
