Oct. 1, 1939 – March 26, 2013
Lorraine “Gibby” Ann Benson, 73, of Sweet Home, died March 26, 2013 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 1, 1939 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Tom and June (DeWitt) Smith.
Mrs. Benson moved to Sweet Home from California in 1979 and has lived in Sweet Home and Cascadia ever since. She always enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Her favorite flower was the fuchsia. She enjoyed spur-of-the-moment road trips or camping excursions and couldn’t resist a weekend of garage sales or spending hot days at the river. She cherished and loved her many friends, some that were with her for decades.
Mrs. Benson is survived by her father, Tom Smith of California; daughter Kimberly Kean and son-in-law Lewis Farrier of Nikiski, Alaska, and daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Lee Aultman of Sweet Home; son Turk and daughter-in-law Tina Bright of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; sister Lynn Morris of Eugene; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, June Smith; and brother Russell Smith.
A potluck-style Celebration of Life was held March 30 at the Sweet Home VFW Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Humane Society.
