Lorraine H. Jones, 89, of Sweet Home, died Aug. 31, 2009 in Lebanon.
She was born April 1, 1920 in Portland to John C. and Myrtle (McClellan) Super. She was a 48-year resident of Sweet Home.
Mrs. Jones was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, with membership and honorary membership in several local chapters. She was a past Worthy Advisor for the Order of the Rainbow Girls, a past Worthy Matron for both the Sweet Home and Brownsville chapters and was the organist for her many other chapters. She was also very proud to have been selected as the Grand Organist for the state of Oregon in 1986-1987.
Playing piano was her great love and she last played for her Eastern Star chapter this past spring. She had her very own style and would play wherever and whenever asked. She was part of several musical groups who played and sang at many special functions over the years.
Mrs. Jones was most proud of her 20 grandchildren and over 40 great- and great-great-grandchildren. She loved to crochet afghans for each of them. Friends and family were often the recipients of her imaginative creations. She also loved to sew and made four wedding dresses for her daughters and granddaughters.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her children, Karen D. Spencer of Nelma, Wis.; Mary S. Miller of Ford, Wash.; Michael C. Sweeney of Springfield; and James T. Sweeney of Eugene.
She was preceded in death by a son, John R. Sweeney III; a daughter, Kathleen L. Klippstein; and husband Erwin F. “Jonesy” Jones.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Eastern Star Endowment Fund or the Shriner’s Hospital.
Services were held Sept. 4 at the United Methodist Church in Sweet Home, with final burial at Lewis Cemetery in Foster.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
