Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 20 near milepost 34 on June 21 at about 5:44 p.m. A green Ford Fiesta was eastbound and attempted to negotiate a curve when the operator stated the brakes failed, so she was unable to slow. The vehicle exited the roadway on the outside of the curve and came to a rest in thick vegetation after going through an ODOT sign.
The operator, Linda Lee Lougee, 76, of Toledo, was transported by ambulance to hospital as a precaution. The vehicle was removed by Lloyd Rice Towing. The operator showed a photo of an alert on her dashboard recommending immediate brake service.
In the midst of a chaotic weekend, the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to a call for a single motor vehicle wreck on Highway 20 in the evening of Friday, June 21.
Arriving on scene, crews immediately got to work extricating the single occupant. According to the battalion chief, the driver was traveling from Toledo to Bend. The driver believed the accident was caused by her losing the ability to use her brakes, due to possibly low brake fluid.
The vehicle left the roadway coming to a rest on the driver side door, approximately 20 feet off the road around milepost 32.
The patient was transported to Lebanon Community Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
