The Huskies scored quickly in baseball at Cottage Grove Friday, but victory slipped away as the Lions scored twice late in the game to win 2-1.
Brandon Marquez hit a homer to left field to score Sweet Home’s only run.
Kory VanDeusen struck out 11 Cottage Grove batters in a complete game. He gave up three hits and only a single earned run. He walked two and hit one batter.
The Huskies recorded four hits, with Marquez going 1-1. J.T. Weld went 2-3, and Colton Holly singled.
The Lions’ Aaron Bloom struck out eight Huskies, walked two and gave up one earned run.
The Huskies, 3-10 in league and 8-14 overall, fall to last place with the losses. Cottage Grove, 4-9, is in fifth, while Junction City, 5-8, is fourth. Sisters leads the league with no losses. Elmira, 8-5, is in second, followed by La Pine, 6-7.

In a game May 1 at Cottage Grove, the Lions got ahead 4-1 by the end of the second inning and then led 6-2 by the end of the fourth.
The Huskies scored two in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Lions. Drayson Scott singled to score Hunter Jutte, and VanDeusen singled to score Scott.
The Huskies collected eight hits. Van Deusen went 2-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Cole Ashcraft went 2-3 with a double. Scott went 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Kevin Seiber and Marquez singled.
Colton Holly threw seven strikeouts and six walks, giving up two hits and four earned runs in four innings.
