Louis Wofford

Louis Anthony “Tony” Wofford II, 42, of Sweet Home, died April 19, 2006 from injuries he received in a log truck accident outside of Cherry Grove.

Mr. Wofford was born Feb. 28, 1964 in Sacaton, Ariz., the son of Luis Antonio Wofford and Billie J. (Hudspeth) Wofford. He was a Lakota of the Oglala tribe whose family was from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

As a young boy, he moved with his family to Oregon, settling in the Roseburg community, where he was raised and received his education. He joined the Oregon Army National Guard on April 27, 1984. He served with Company l, 186th Infantry, in Roseburg for six years until receiving his honorable discharge on March 11, 1990.

He was married to J. DiAnn Green on Sept. 20, 1996 in Sonora, Calif.

Mr. Wofford worked as a log truck driver for Valley View Logging and Cutting, Inc. in Sweet Home.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and loved to build things. He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. He loved his family and always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Wofford is survived by his wife, J. DiAnn Wofford, of Sweet Home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Dan Cumbra of Crescent City, Calif., and Connie and Brian Roy of Cloquet, Minn .; a son, Travis Preston of Keizer; his mother and step-father, Billie J. and James L. “Jim” Mecham of Roseburg; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert D. and Anya Wofford of Lynnwood, Wash .; Mike and Freenie Mecham of Eugene; Joe and Elizabeth Wofford of Roseburg; Jason and Anjie Mecham of Roseburg; and Mark Brady of Jackson, Mo .; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shauna and Mike Baldwin of Miramachi, New Brunswick, Canada. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian A. Wofford in 1996.

A celebration of his life was held April 23 at the Sweet Home Elks Lodge.
