Lula Mae Gallipeau
February 15, 1926 – February 6, 2024
Lula Mae Gallipeau (Lu) died peacefully in her sleep on February 6th at her residence in Sweet Home.
Lu was born the youngest of five children to Lee Willard Hall and Cora Louisa Emerson-Hall on February 15, 1926.
She moved to San Diego, CA, where she met the love of her life Joseph Francis Gallipeau (Joe). They were married February 11th, 1947 and remained happily married for 70 years.
She and Joe began their family in San Diego with their first born Larry George Gallipeau. Joe’s Naval career often took him to various locations, one being The Panama Canal Zone, where their second child Karen Lynn Jack was born. Then to Virginia, where their third child Sheran Lea Dotson was born. The Navy transported Lu and their three young children by train back to San Diego where Joe was stationed and where they completed their family with their fourth child Gary Wayne Gallipeau.
Joe was stationed in Subic Bay, Philippines where his young family would live for two years, then return to San Diego. The family moved once more to Escondido, CA. Both daughters were married there. She and Joe and their son Gary relocated to Oregon in the early 70s. Their son has since moved and they have lived in Sweet Home for over 20 years. Lu said they moved here to get out of the city and she enjoys the wonderful people.
Lu is best known for her volunteer Harmonica playing at several Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) in Linn and Benton counties. She said, “I hope those who hear the music that I play will have had their day brightened. God gave me this gift and I love sharing it with others” She and her delightful music will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 24th (meal following) at Waterloo Chapel 39480 Gross St Lebanon. Graveside Service at Skyline Memorial Gardens will take place at 1pm, Monday, February 26th.
