Lynda Newton, 69, of Sweet Home, died Sept. 21, 2007 at the Albany Regency assisted care home of kidney failure secondary to diabetes.
She was born Jan. 26, 1938 in Hayward, Calif. to Ernest W. and Helen C. (Wedin) Pott-Hughes.
She spent her youth in Dobbins, Chico and Marysville, Calif. before making Sweet Home her home. She was proud of her Native American (Maidu) and Swedish ancestry.
She married John Delbert Newton in Reno in July 1967. They were married for 36 years. The Newtons were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Mrs. Newtonwas active in the church choir there.
She was involved in Sweet Home Emergency Ministries, helping the homeless with food and clothing. She loved to travel, knit, crochet and read. In her youth she sang and played the guitar and enjoyed country music.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her daughter, Lynda Jean Newton, and stepson, Michael Howard Newton, both of Albany; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Delbert Newton.
