Madeline Smith

Madeline Garver Smith, 80, of Sweet Home died on Oct. 3, 2005.

She was born on June 29, 1925 in Centralia, Wash., to William (Bill) and Sadie Brooks. She was the second of three children.

She attended school in Portland and graduated from Girls Polytechnical High School.

She married Kenneth Garver in 1944, and the couple had four children, Kenneth II, LaNae, Michael and Larry.

Several years after the death of her husband in 1982, she moved to Sweet Home to live with her sister.

In 2004, she married Harry I. Smith, a friend of 57 years. They made their home in Sweet Home.

Mrs. Smith loved traveling, family, the Mariners baseball team and going to church. She enjoyed sewing, bead work, pine needle basketry and many more crafts, which she and her sister did for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Harry; sons, all of Vancouver, Wash.; stepdaughter, Kimberly Combs of John Day; sister, Catherine of Sweet Home; six grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, LaNae Ferreira, in 2000 and her brother, Kennth Brooks earlier this year.
