Man dies in Hwy. 99 crash near Corvallis Airport

An 18-year-old man died Friday evening, Feb. 10, in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 99 near the Corvallis Airport.

Neither involved driver was immediately identified.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, a 33-year-old man was traveling northbound on the two-lane highway in a 2006 Chrysler 300 when it crashed nearly head-on with a southbound 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT, driven by the 18-year-old. The latter was pronounced dead at the scene, while the former was transported with unknown injuries to the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

An investigation revealed that impairment may have been a factor in the crash, which closed the highway for more than three hours.

The Benton County Crash Team was assisted on scene by the Corvallis Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

No further information was available.

The crash remains an active investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at (541) 753-8477 or [email protected].
