Sweet Home wrestler Mandy Binks finished eighth at the USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals tournament held March 26-28 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Binks, a junior wrestling in her first national tournament, lost to Megan Penny of East Stroudsburg, Pa., 4-0 in the 123-pound seventh-place final. Sixteen girls wrestled in the 123-pound division.
Binks opened the tournament by pinning Casey Rue in the first round, then lost by a fall in 5:37 to top-seeded Roni Goodale of Muscatine, Iowa, in the second round. In the consolation bracket Binks decisioned her first opponent, then lost 12-0 to Alexia Moreno of Turlock, Calif., in the consolation quarterfinals.
The only other Oregon wrestlers in the tournament were 130-pounders Kelsey Carl of Agness, who finished fifth, and Katelyn Eddy of Hood River, who placed seventh.
All three were named All Americans.
California had the most wrestlers on the medal stand, with 19 All Americans.
