Editor:
A big thank you for another successful Sportsman’s Holiday Court Workshop.
Sportsman’s Holiday Court Committee members have been working together to improve and sustain the tradition of Sweet Home’s Sportsman’s Holiday and this court. Thank you so much to Kristin Adams, Wendy Younger, Michael Hall and Ben Dahlenberg. It was their vision to have poise and leadership trainings. Each of them have been a part of this community growing up, raising their families and giving back to invest in the lives of young people.
Thank you again to Pacific Power for sponsoring our lovely luncheon and Doris Johnston, Pacific Power’s regional community manager, for sharing about their presence in our community and valuable tips for meeting and greeting people and making presentations.
Thank you to Pastor Matt Coleman and the Hillside Fellowship Church for opening their church to us and Michael Hall, The Point Restaurant, for catering the wonderful lunch.
Also, a big thank you to each one who led or assisted in the various sessions. Without each of them, this would not have been possible. This outstanding group of people took their time to invest in the future of nine young ladies in our community.
Stephanie Rice of Stephanie Rice Photography spent her Saturday morning taking some great outdoor photos. Each participant will receive a collage of her pictures, plus digital photos.
The young ladies who attended shared a formal luncheon with an etiquette lesson by Marge Wilson. Marge was involved with the Masonic Lodge’s Charitable Fund, which supports education and scholarships and Rainbow Girls, for 20 years.
Laura Goodrich led our First Impressions Session, offering guidelines for building resumes and interview tips. Goodrich joined the AmeriCorps in August 2013 as the Project Leader for the South Santiam Community Forest Corridor. In this role, she helps enhance the level of community participation in the project through developing and offering a number of engagement opportunities.
Lisa Canaday teaches math at the Junior High and has been there for 11 years. Lisa is president of Sweet Home Education Association. She is, also, on the state team of the Girls Ministry Team for Oregon Ministry Network, providing trainings for leaders, camps and conferences for girls. Lisa brought a wardrobe to discuss appropriate dress, role models and social media in our “Pretty Is As Pretty Does” Session.
We were honored to have Rachel Kittson-MaQatish as our keynote speaker, sharing her story while creating a beautiful floral arrangement. Rachel is an attorney and partner at the Morley Thomas Law Firm in Lebanon. She encouraged the young ladies to realize that they are all princesses and deserve to be cherished!
Ashley Zeigler, Vision Consulting, of Roseburg led “All Eyes on You,” working with the young ladies on poise, public speaking and modeling. She was Miss Oregon International for 2013 and has held four state and six local titles. Ashley has been working with young women for over 18 years.
Special thanks to our 2013 Sportsman’s Holiday Court for serving lunch and sharing experiences about attending events, time management and commitment, volunteerism, being role models and taking what you’ve learned into your future during our “Fit For A Queen” Session.
I’m so proud of our community to put together this free, wonderful workshop for young ladies in Sweet Home. Thank you to everyone who participated.
