Sweet Home 9, Pleasant Hill 0
Makenzie Marchbanks pitched a perfect softball game on Thursday, March 22, at home in a 9-0 shutout of Pleasant Hill.
“Makenzie Marchbanks was awesome tonight,” Coach Steve Hummer said. “She threw a total of 76 pitches, struck out 14; and not a single runner reached base (no walks).
“This kind of thing is very rare. I have never been a part of this kind of accomplishment in my 32 years of playing or coaching baseball or softball. She completely overpowered her opponent tonight.
“She also went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs at the plate.”
At the plate, the team collected 10 hits, with Paige Niemi going 2-3 and Jessalyn Seiber going 2-4.
“We don’t play again now until March 31,” Hummer said. “I am really excited about where we are going into the break. The kids are proving to themselves that we can hit. We know our defense is in place. Now we are matching our offense with our defense.”

Sweet Home 13, Elmira 2
Sweet Home defeated Elmira 13-2 at home on March 20.
“We played solid defense tonight, not great, but solid,” Hummer said. “Mac struck out 12, which of course helps; but we can still get better in the field.
“Mac gave up a few more walks than she usually does, and we need to fix that; but she is still dominating.
“We had an incredible night at the plate tonight. It was really good to see the girls start to take off. Nine different players got hits. We had six extra base hits, and we really hit the ball hard. We have been spending a lot of time in the cage this spring, and it is starting to pay off.
“Elmira is young but they are the defending state champions, it felt good to take it to them like that.”
At bats, Seiber, Olivia Lake and Idahna Huenergardt each hit a double. Michelle Cliver, Sara Brocard and Seiber each hit triples.
Seiber had four RBIs; Lake, three; and Cliver, three.
On the game, Seiber went 3-3; Lake, 3-4; Cliver, 3-4; and Marchbanks, 2-4.
