(Aug. 25, 1909 – March 3, 2017) Margaret Martha Nothiger Morse, 107 years of age, passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2017.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1909, in Sweet Home to Jacob and Mathilda Nothiger.
Margaret attended school in Sweet Home and graduated in 1928, the last surviving member of her class. She went on to get her B.S. from the College of Idaho with a teaching certificate and was an elementary school teacher until her retirement in 1973.
She married Curtis Morse on Aug. 6, 1933. They lived in Idaho from 1933-1960, Culver, Oregon, from 1960-1965, Waldport, Oregon from 1965-1973, and in Newberg, Oregon from 1973-2017.
She was a long-time dedicated member, first of the Evangelical Church and then of Friends churches and taught Sunday school classes. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers and other hobbies in her leisure time, and also traveled with her husband.
She and Curtis gave of their time and money such that the baseball field at George Fox University in Newberg is named after them.
Margaret is survived by her children Sam Morse, Paul (Meredith) Morse, Barbara Morse, all of Newberg, and Howard (Monna) Morse of Olympia, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Mathilda Nothiger; brothers Herman and Charlie Nothiger; husband Curtis; daughter-in-law Geraldine; and great-grandson Devin Curtis.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 25, at Newberg Friends Church in Newberg. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Twin Rocks Friends Camp, P.O. Box 6, Rockaway Beach, OR 97136.
