Marie “Mitzi” Hyatt, 70, of Sweet Home died Sunday, Oct. 8.
She was born to Franciscus Hubertus and Marie (Josee) Voncken in Maastricht, Holland, the last child of four girls.
She met and later married Eugene L. Hyatt while he was serving in the Air Force in Europe. The couple was stationed in Germany and throughout Europe. Later they returned to the United States, where he was stationed in New York.
Eventually, they made their way to the West Coast, settling in Oregon during Eugene’s retirement. They always enjoyed traveling and sightseeing and the friends that they made throughout the years. Many of those friendships they kept through their lives.
Mrs. Hyatt was active in the local community. She was a vibrant card enthusiast. The best years of her life were spent with friends and family.
She is survived by her sons, Frank and daughter-in-law Donna Hyatt of Edmonds, Wash., and Jeff and daughter-in-law Pattie Hyatt of Beaverton; daughter, Milli and son-in-law Marc Stevens of Columbia, S.C.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters still living in Holland.
Contributions can be made in her memory to the Local Humane Society. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Sweet Home.
