Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sweet Home second-grade teacher on multiple sex abuse charges Feb. 2.
After appearing in court Feb. 3 (Friday), Holley Elementary School teacher Rohan Cordy, 28, of Polk County faces four counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of using a child in a display of sexually explicit content.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office press release, Cordy is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage minor at a YMCA summer camp in Marion County.
Cordy worked as a councilor at the camp, which is located at Silver Falls State Park, from June to August.
In addition to working with the YMCA, Cordy began working at Holley Elementary this year as a temporary teacher in mid-December to replace a teacher who had resigned.
“The alleged incident did not occur during Mr. Cordy’s employment in our district and did not involve any Sweet Home students,” said Supt. Tom Yahraes. “The district is cooperating with the police investigation. Again, the police believe the alleged crime is not related to his position as a teacher in our district or any Sweet Home students. Our goal is to make sure that our children have a safe and successful year.”
The district has placed Cordy on administrative leave, and a retired Sweet Home elementary teacher has agreed to teach the second-grade class.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has no information to indicate there were any additional victims outside of the YMCA camp.
The YMCA of Marion and Polk Counties and the Sweet Home School District have been actively assisting the Sheriff’s Office during its investigation, according to the press release.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone with information regarding Cordy contact Det. Matt Hagan at (503) 316-6605.
