Marist 4
Sweet Home 3
Marist edged out the Husky baseball team in the opening game of the season on March 15.
Hosting the Huskies, Marist scored the first run in the second inning. The Huskies scored in the third and two more in the sixth. Marist finished the game with a three-run inning.
“We lost a tough one tonight,” Coach Dan Tow said. “Brandon (Martin) was very sharp for his first outing of the year. Going into the last inning, he had given up only three hits and one unearned run.
“They were able to put several hits together in that last inning, and they pulled it out.
“It wasn’t due to any errors on our part. They just got the job done. Overall, it was a well-played game by both teams.”
Martin, 0-1, was relieved by Lance Carter. Vitus started for Marist. He was relieved by Stiltner.
At bats, Travis Smith led, going 3-4 with two doubles. Martin went 3-4 with a double. Mark Lewis and Aaron Forquer each had a single.
“Travis Smith had an excellent night behind the plate,” Coach Tow said.
