Marjory “Margie” Virlea Kikel, 91, of Sweet Home, died Nov. 24, 2021.
She was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Atascadero, Calif., to Edward and Zelma (Groves) Cardwell. She has lived in Sweet Home since 1939.
She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1947 and the University of Oregon in 1951. She did post-grad work at Oregon State University, Portland State University and the University of Oregon.
Margie received the Presidential Award for saving a life at Fern Ridge Reservoir. She worked with the Red Cross for many years, with the Bloodmobile, teaching swimming and first aid.
She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a member of P.E.O. and a former member of O.E.S. She played bridge with a Thursday Bridge Club since the early 1950s.
Margie is survived by her children, Stephen P. and his wife Rene Kikel of Virginia, Virlee S. Kikel of Sweet Home, Ronald F. Kikel and his wife Jill of Bend, and Valerie C. Martinez of Portland; brothers Stephen G. and his wife Trudy Cardwell of Beaverton, and Kenneth E. and his wife Janice Cardwell of Arizona; one grandchild, Zoe Kikel Storemont of Portland; and two great-grandchildren, Rowan and Ona.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the United Methodist church.
Memorial contributions can be made in Margie’s name to the American Red Cross.
