Mary Ann Stilwell, 89, of Albany, a former Sweet Home resident, died Nov. 30, 2021.
She was born March 4, 1932 in Yaquina Bay to William and Retta (Gibson) Hopper.
She grew up in Toledo. After the family moved to Sweet Home when she was a senior in high school, she attended Sweet Home High for a time but had to quit due to illness.
She met Denton Stilwell at a cousin’s house in December 1950 and they were married March 25, 1951. They had 53 years together. They enjoyed many church activities and worked on many projects as well. Mrs. Stilwell was treasurer for many years at Elm Street Baptist Church.
She and her husband enjoyed camping at Big Meadows with their horses. She was wonderful at crocheting and made many beautiful afghans and tablecloths.
Mrs. Stilwell is survived by her children, Retta and son-in-law Daniel Jones, Linda and son-in-law Dan Hutchins, and Dean and daughter-in-law Susan Stilwell, all of Sweet Home; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denton Stilwell; parents William and Retta Hopper; sisters Florence, Myrtle, Hazel and Vivian; and brothers Merritt and Morse.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Liberty Cemetery.
