Matthew Pearce

Matthew Allen Pearce, 30, of Salem formerly of Sweet Home, died July 15, 2015.

He was born Aug. 16, 1984 in Salem to April Pearce and Joseph Royce Birdsong. He was raised in Sweet Home and Salem.

Mr. Pearce was a welder with Job Corps before joining the National Guard, where he served as a recruiter and military policeman for eight years, five on active duty. He served three tours in Iraq.

He also worked as a mechanic, welder, and tow truck recovery.

Mr. Pearce was a truck enthusiast and was a member of car and truck clubs and enjoyed car and truck shows, often entering his own truck. He loved riding on the dunes at the beach. He lived a life full of adventure.

Mr. Pearce is survived by his grandmother, Carolyn Pearce; mother April Pearce; sister Christina Mendez; second mother and great aunt Patsy Brandt; father Joe Birdsong; siblings Brandon Tyler, Megan, Emily, Amanda and Brendon; grandmother Patsy; and many other family members and friends.

He was laid to rest in Crawfordsville Union Cemetery.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
