Maurine Banta

Maurine Banta, 83, of Brownsville, died Oct. 7, 2006.

She was born to Marc and Zelma (Smith) Washburn in Pullman, Wash. She came to Oregon in 1934 and has lived in the Crawfordsville-Brownsville area for most of that time.

Mrs. Banta was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and a local garden club. She was a poet and artist. She loved fishing and camping with the family. Her favorite things were lady’s slippers and hummingbirds.

Mrs. Banta is survived by her husband, Percy Banta of Brownsville; daughter, Tamara Banta of Portland; son, James Banta of Halsey; sister, Edith Corliss of Springfield; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brother, Billy Byrd and sister, Irene Ward.

A viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 13, at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Crawfordsville.
