Max “Jack” Smith, 75, of Pleasant Hill died on Oct. 31, 2006 of a heart-related cause.
He was born on July 18, 1931 to Max and Mary (Davis) Smith in Japton, Ark.
He worked in all aspects of the logging and the logging equipment business.
He married Viola Lee Sommers in 1951 in Sweet Home. They later divorced. He married Elva Mae Harper in 1969 in Reno, Nev.
He is survived by his wife, Elva; son, James Brian Smith of Germantown, Md.; daughters, Patricia Kay Gehlhaar of Eugene, Kristilyn E. Abrams of Eugene, Brenda Allwander of Eugene, Betty Taylor of Roseburg and Breanna DuBray of Pleasant Hill; sister, Velma Allan of Fayetteville, Ark.; brothers, Garland Smith of Lebanon, Denzil Smith of Houston, Texas and James Smith of Farmington, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Nov. 3 at the Emerald Valley Golf Club. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
