McKinney elected to second term as SHEDG president

The Sweet Home Economic Development Group (SHEDG) elected officers at their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, May 10. The officers for April 2001-April 2002 are as follows; Jean McKinney, president (second term); Gary Rasmussen, vice president; Beth Lambert, secretary and Ed Spencer, treasurer.

There are still two vacant positions that need to be filled on the board with a nominating committee formed to fill these positions. Anyone interested in participating should contact Jean McKinney at (541) 367-4775.

SHEDG has also approved a donation in the amount of $1,000 to the City Beautification Project for the median strip located on Hwy. 20. The City Beautification Project is being matched dollar for dollar by the Sweet Home Community Foundation. The donation money was made available from the profits of the 2000 Oregon Jamboree.

SHEDG is currently planning a board retreat after all vacant positions are filled and the new Economic Development Coordinator has begun work. The retreat will allow the board to review current by-laws, set goals and discuss other opportunities for economic development within the community.

Negotiations are underway on the contract for the new Economic Development Coordinator with plans for the position to commence work on June 1. The position was filled through a collaborative effort between the Chamber of Commerce, City of Sweet Home and SHEDG. Regional Investment Board Grant is funding this position.
