Meals on Wheels rewarding

Editor:

I would like to just follow up on Joan Scofield’s letter to the editor from last week regarding the Meals on Wheels Program. First off, I’d like to thank Joan for her concern about the program and taking the time to write.

I’d also like to thank her for her generosity in time she gives to the program and her willingness to be so helpful. It’s folks like Joan that really make this program work.

I know there a plenty of seniors and disabled in our community that are able, but aren’t taking advantage of this program, whether having their meals delivered, or joining us in the dining room.

I would just like to remind them that this is not a welfare program, and there are no strings attached. You’ve earned or are entitled to all the services available to you.

The program is funded by grants (local and federal) and various other state and federal programs. If you are homebound or can’t get around enough to prepare your meals, give me a call. You can be sure an honest smiling face will deliver your meal hot and fresh.

There are also plenty of folks in this community who have a little time on their hands – What? An hour or two out of their day? Once, twice or three times a week. Lets get involved Sweet Home. Give me a call and we’ll talk.

I’ve been the site manager for this program in Sweet Home for just about a year now. Prior to taking this position, I was a volunteer driver for two years. For those who don’t know, volunteering for a program such as MOW can be a very rewarding experience.
